An unusual sight for the marshes: Hackney’s finest footballers, lining up with the council’s bin men and women, cheered on by the town Speaker wearing a very fetching tracksuit/medallion combo! It was all in aid of St Mungo’s Homeless Shelter, with races and a free kick competition raising money for charity. The match itself was a hard-fought game against Haringey, which ended 1-3. The score line flattered the opponents – caught on the break whilst looking to equalise at the end of the game, not even Jo’s superb stand-in keeping could save us! But despite the defeat, Hackney women played some “lovely” football and new 1st manager Dodge also added –
Tash scored a fantastic header, and Renee was well-deserved player of the match. A great start to the season, and especially for those new players who experienced for the first time what the Hackney spirit is all about!
So a big THANK YOU to both teams for being such good sports and for helping raises £125 for charity.
