On a sunny afternoon, Hackney Women’s FC arrived in North London ready for a fun friendly against Hampstead Ladies. It was really encouraging to see such a big squad, admirably managed by Alfie, and again, to welcome more first-time players turning out for a game. With lots of variation in the team and people playing in new and exciting positions (big thanks to those who stepped up in goal!), the match was close – perhaps even closer than we had expected. Hackney played the better football and our passing was excellent, but unfortunately we couldn’t quite convert that into goals – the final score 3-0 didn’t do us justice.
Nevertheless, a really enjoyable afternoon was had by all – a special mention must go to the Birthday Girl, Debs, who showed real determination, had some cracking attempts on goal, and was unlucky not to score. It all promises well for the beginning of the season!
