Captain’s log – Sunday 8th September
Unfortunately Hackney firsts did not get off to a flying start against the depleted AFC Phoenix. The score line was 2-1 and for much of the game Hackney did not seem to get going. AFC Phoenix played a particularly high line, which Hackney found it difficult to penetrate. However for the final twenty minutes of the game the old Hackney fighting spirit was back. At this point we were 2-0 down but with an injured Alice spurring us on from the sidelines we started to pull together as a unit and produce some good and exciting football.
Dodge secured the equaliser after Helen put a ball through and Hackney was very unlikely in the following 15 minutes not to equalise. Viv managed to get through on goal but unfortunately cleared the cross bar and Nieves had some dynamic runs onto through balls which she was unlucky not to convert. The final score was 2-1, which was overall disappointing there was a lot to take from the attitude and passion shown in the final 20 minutes. Let’s hope that is what continues into next week’s game against Luton Hatters.
